SELK, lead vocalist and songwriter, Anna Jordan, is set to release her new single, Born with Colours Wednesday, December 18th. The track was produced, recorded, and mixed by Jordan in her home studio. Mastering was handled by Seán Mac Erlaine, with additional production support provided by Keith Lindsey. The result is a moody, atmospheric piece that blends Jordan’s delicate vocals with layered ambient tones, all crafted using just piano, voice, and effects. The single, Born with Colours, is another great example of Jordan’s distinctive musical style and unique approach to songwriting.
When asked about the song Anna says:
“Songs are interesting to me, I can never just pinpoint one meaning, but maybe it’s about the childlike wonder you try so hard to reconnect with when you’re older, that inner world, it feels like a memory but you know it’s still possible to access, you can almost touch it.”
“There’s an exploration there also I think, of that space between wakefulness and sleep, when you feel like you’re shifting between realities. You shed all these layers of who you think you are. I’m in love with that place, I could float there forever…”
About the recording process Anna says:
“I used this beautiful effects pedal on this track that I borrowed, it was being sold the next day so I had one day to get the song down. I locked myself in my studio, the space at the back of my garden, and recorded from morning till night, so it was quite a personal process, and I think that comes through in the final piece. The editing and mixing took much longer, as I was doing it all myself and learning so much along the way. The trickiest thing for me is making final decisions and not second guessing myself, not my strong point at all, but I have to say I generally loved the whole process.”
Anna Jordan has established herself as a serious composer with fruitful contributions to soundtracks for movies such as ‘Snap’ directed by Carmel Winters (best known for her film Float Like A Butterfly) and ‘Breakfast On Pluto‘ starring Cillian Murphy. Anna’s moving compositions lend well to film and SELK’s track ‘Salt’ was added to the soundtrack of 2019 thriller ‘Greta’ starring Chloe Grace Moretz.
