Singer songwriter Sean Coady has burst onto the music scene with his debut single Beyond the Sun.
The Kilkenny native, who recently made it to the finals of the UK international songwriting competition, is already a well-known face on the Dublin music scene.
Coady, who has been busy in the studio recording more tracks, thinks his first single Beyond the Sun will give people a taste of whats to come.
And when it comes to how Beyond the Sun came about, Coady said: “I had the opening three chords in my head for a new song and I wanted it to be a loop of pure melody. Once I had the verses, the bridge and the melodic chorus on the guitar, the lyrics literally fell out of me and I wrote the song in about 30 minutes.”
He added: “I then got in contact with a very talented singer named Cheryl Marry from Co Meath. We then went across to JAM Studios in May 2024 and recorded the song. I’m very excited for people to hear this song.”
Speaking about who inspires him musically, Coady continued: “I have been playing the acoustic guitar for around 20 years and did open mics here and there. I absolutely love indie/rock music, having grown up in the 90s, I am very fond of and have a strong affinity with the indie scene from the early to mid 90’s.
“I love David Bowie, The Beatles, Prince, Bob Marley and Bruce Springsteen, but I have an open ear and would listen to anything. I started playing the electric guitar in 2020 during lockdown and haven’t looked back since.”
And despite playing guitar for over 20 years, Coady said it wasn’t until four years ago that he decided to bite the bullet and give songwriting a go, he added: “I had never actually considered writing my own songs until the start of 2022 when a friend spurred me on. The thought of writing my own music had never occurred to me until my friend suggested it and I’m so thankful he did as it’s now something I absolutely love doing. It was like once the floodgates for writing music opened up and I haven’t stopped since.”
