A powerful blend of anthemic rock with influences from across the genre, The King kicks off with a wall of sound reminiscent of Editors’ intensity, backed by driving bass and drums that echo the raw energy of The Black Keys. With a bridge that recalls the almost translucent, otherworldly guitars of the Arctic Monkeys’ AM era, it leads to a feel-good celebratory chorus with a guitar-driven hook that has become central to the band’s signature sound. The song’s emotional core, however, is deeply personal. The King is a tribute to a friend of lead singer Eoghan, who passed away.
Through the lyrics, Eoghan reflects on his friend’s quiet, yet powerful gift for inspiring others. Speaking on this, Eoghan said “She was someone who selflessly instilled confidence and a deeper sense of purpose in those around her and these types of qualities can often go unsung, with The King, we wanted to pay homage to that. I started to wonder how much of my songwriting has been subtly influenced by people who have given their time to come on this journey with me. Those who have listened to early drafts, incomplete recordings, unfinished cadences. After the passing of a friend – who always championed the creativity of those around her – it felt right to pay tribute to her, as the slowly growing faith I had in the bands work was a direct result of her encouragement and belief in my songwriting abilities.“

In addition to The King, The Violet Breaks have also announced the forthcoming release of their debut album, Triple Volt. The album, set to drop on February 28th, will feature a collection of 10 tracks that showcase the band’s unique sound—a mix of angular guitar riffs, punchy rhythms, and uplifting, anthemic choruses. To celebrate the release of Triple Volt, the band will headline a special album launch show at The Workman’s Club in Dublin on February 28th.
