In a single day of recording, acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter Rhob Cunningham has distilled the stark beauty of winter into Everyday Decisions. This 10-track acoustic album, out December 5th, 2024, offers a minimalist, deeply intimate contrast to his recently released EP, Shook Change.

The album opens and closes with plaintive instrumental pieces, framing the collection with simplicity. The second track, The Corpse Watcher, draws inspiration from an old Irish fairytale, imbuing folklore with Cunningham’s signature haunting warmth. Minyon Falls touches on the pressing subject of mental health in law enforcement, serving as a heartfelt tribute to Ashley Bryant.

While the album is predominantly Rhob’s voice and guitar, the striking exception is Broken, which features backing vocals from Conor O’Brien of Villagers. This collaboration creates a rare moment of harmony, standing out amidst the otherwise raw arrangements.

Throughout the record, Cunningham strips his sound back to just voice and guitar, creating a stark intimacy. However, not all is calm in this wintry journey. Tracks like Lucy and Tyrant carry energy over from Shook Change, reimagined in a pared-back yet strikingly direct form. In particular, Tyrant surges with momentum that disrupts the tranquil arc. Every winter holds its storms.
