Paul Tiernan releases new album ‘The Mystery of Others’on April 15th

March 30, 2015

paultiernanFrench based Cork native PAUL TIERNAN will release his new album ‘The Mystery of Others’ on April 15th.  The album will be launched in Ireland with tour dates starting April 16th in Coughlans Cork City followed by gigs in Co Tipperary, 3 more around county Cork and a Dublin album launch on 30th April at Odessa.  The album is available from gigs & from www.paultiernan.com

Paul outlines the title and the theme behind the new album “The Mystery of Others explains how fascinated I am about how people act, react and interact in such mysterious ways.  The songs reflect to some extent where I am in my life and what I feel about the cyclical nature of our lives …love, God, death”.

On tour, Paul will be accompanied by a tiny orchestra of one, long time collaborator Marja Gaynor on fiddle, melodica & concertina.  Both Marja & Paul are well known to Irish audiences through their work & performances with the legendary ‘Interference’ and Fergus O’Farrell.  Marja was also a founder member of the Swell Season with Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova.

Paul describes the new direction he has taken with ‘The Mystery of Others’, his 7th album “I wanted to take a new path away from the acoustic guitar, singer-songwriter world I have inhabited and find somewhere more fantastical, less confessional. I could record intimate, dreamy albums forever but to stray from the easy path and enter new terrain is an exciting, fantastic challenge.  This meant playing and using instruments I was less familiar with like the piano and even drums.  I wanted this album to have a grimy, vaudeville flavour rather than the well trodden path of lovelorn, bitter sweetness that my previous albums have followed”.

The album features input from Maurice ‘Seezer’ Roycroft and Wayne Sheehy, musicians that Paul started his musical career with.  A host of other players from Brittany, San Francisco and Northern Ireland, Bordeaux, west Cork, London and Dublin also contributed creatively.  Paul describes the valuable input of working with so many talents “This mixture of musicians took me out of my shell and pushed me towards a different way of playing and recording the song”.

‘powerful stuff…breathtakingly beautiful’ Hot Press
“He is without doubt one of the best European singer/songwriters, a great guitarist as well, equipped with a magic voice, a perfect mixture of silk & grit.  The first song, ‘Breakfast in bed’ is a gem, a dream impregnated with bittersweet nostalgia that never leaves us after hearing it” Rock ‘N Folk
“a true songsmith in the tradition of Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake and Paul Simon” CD Baby
