The official video accompanying Christy Moore’s beautiful spoken word tribute President Michael D Higgins – ‘Music to our Ears‘ – is now live.
The video features the creation of a 10ft portrait of President Michael D. Higgins, designed by famous street artist ACHES.
Aches is a Dublin based Irish artist, specialising in large scale murals and Graffiti. After graduating from NCAD with a degree in Visual Communications, Aches began to fuse his knowledge of Graphic Design and Graffiti, creating a distinct style which he has become known for today.
Internationally renowned, he has been invited to design original artwork for projects around the world in countries such as Denmark, Hungary, Spain, Sweden, Scotland, Austria, Switzerland, and England. After a decade of painting outdoors, Aches’ artistic practice is now shared in equal balance between contemporary murals and studio work.
The poem, written by poet Johnny Broderick and recorded by Christy Moore, is a celebration of the life and legacy of our President in the last year of his tenure.
The spoken word track, produced by Gavin Murphy, will feature on the extended edition of Christy’s No.1 album ‘A Terrible Beauty‘, coming later this year. Speaking of how the work came about, Christy states:
“I was working in Gavin Murphy’s Studio. Gavin shared music he was composing for a poem John Broderick had written in advance of President Michael D’s departure from Áras and Úachtaráin. I read the poem and listened to the music.”
“I offered to recite the words. Claddagh heard it and suggested we make it available to the public.”
“I think it is a beautiful tribute to our esteemed President and His Family. I think Johnny B’s words express what many of us feel about Michael D. and, Our First Lady, Sabina”.
