Calling his music “DIY Alternative Folk”, HUGSIE draws from his many musical interests and experiences to write honest, enthusiastic and colloquial music for the people. HUGSIE uses storytelling and a range of different musical instruments to create a live show that is light-hearted, lively and jovial.
To date, HUGSIE has written and released 2 studio albums, an EP and a handful of singles. HUGSIE continuously develops and sharpens his live performances with weekly pub gigs, regular Trad sessions and festival appearances.
After a successful showcase at Ireland’s premier folk conference “Your Roots Are Showing” and recent support gigs with Irish music legends Jack L and Mundy, HUGSIE is back with his fourth single release, ‘Stop Complaining‘, from his upcoming 2025 album, ‘The Man With Pints For Hands‘, which will be launched on October 26 in Scraggs Alley, Carlow.
“Is it a contradiction to complain about complainers?” HUGSIE’s new single, ‘Stop Complaining‘, captures his attempt to navigate his feelings, values and inner hypocrite as he reacts to the modern-day online onslaught of entitlement, virtue signaling and needless outright moaning. Written as a venting exercise over lockdown, the song is all the more potent today given the absolute state of the world.
HUGSIE is a firm believer of gratitude and being incredibly grateful for everything one has, understanding that no person is entitled to anything and no person is any better or worse than any other. This song is his reminder that moaning only serves to bring those around you and one’s self down, instead, one should take action and do something to fix your perceived misfortunes.
