JP O’Duill, the Irish musician, songwriter, and producer, is released his debut solo single, Empathy Primates, on April 25th. After years of being involved in the Irish indie music scene and as a session musician, he now sets his sight on his solo career. This track is the first glimpse of his upcoming album Nótaí, arriving on June 6th.

Steeped in Irish traditional folk influences while weaving in elements of alternative, world folk, and progressive sounds, Empathy Primates is a reflection on the complexities of human connection. The song explores themes of empathy, love, and the increasing tension between digital reliance and real-world experience. Lyrically thoughtful and musically intricate, it questions the nature of the reality we inhabit—both seen and unseen.

JP O’Duill’s songs are deeply intertwined with Dublin and Bray, offering a genuine insight into life in the capital and its surroundings. His music captures the essence of the city—its rhythms, its contradictions, and the everyday experiences of those who call it home.

Recorded at Darklands Audio (Fontaines D.C., Meryl Streep) and Sonic Studios in Dublin, Empathy Primates was co-produced by O’Duill, with contributions from Angus MacAmhlaigh on cello and Dylan Lynch (Soda Blonde) on drums. The track highlights his ability to merge traditional and contemporary elements, creating something both grounded and forward-thinking.

With Nótaí on the horizon, Empathy Primates sets the stage for a debut that promises depth, wit, and a distinctive sonic identity.
