“If Nirvana, thin lizzy and Metallica were to of conceived a baby that was born with Green day’s energy”.
Talllon – a four-piece alternative rock band from Galway, West of Ireland share a powerful and compelling rock anthem with their brand new single TRAPPED due for release on 30th January 2025. This is Talllon’s second single release following their debut single Memories for their upcoming E.P which is due to be released spring/summer of 2025. The title for the E.P is yet to be confirmed, but it sure that it will be oozing in 90s Rock, Punk and Grunge nostalgia.
Who are Talllon? – Liam Carroll – (Guitar/Vocals), Cian Geraghty – (Bass), Ultan Krause – (Guitar) and Adam Nagajek on (Drums). The guys first connected in the summer of 2023 at Galway’s School of Rock and have since then been involved with Music Generation Galway City/ Ireland, which has provided them with a platform to gain experience of playing live performances and opportunities to share their own original music and style throughout the west of Ireland.
Trapped was one of the first tracks written by Liam for the E.P, which was recorded and produced by Kenny Ralph at Sun Street Studio, Tuam which is renowned for its back catalogue of recordings for internationally acclaimed bands including The Saw Doctors, Eric Bell (former Thin Lizzy), Henry McCullough (former Wings) and many more.
“As soon as we heard it come together, I just knew it had to be included as one of the singles we put out there for the two single releases in the run up to the E.P. For me I think musically its good, and it is not something I’d expect to write in comparison to the other songs. I think with Trapped that I surpassed my own expectations, particularly where the chorus and solo progression is concerned”, Says Liam.
Concept of lyrics: “You seem to build me up just to tear me down again”- A perspective of the expectations for the youth within today’s society, the pressure to fit in and to please others rather than oneself. Why should anyone feel outcast, gagged, and chained for stepping out of the line and wanting to discover their own path as an individual, whether that is a fashion choice, a lifestyle, a career, or a creative journey!
“No point in suicide” – To change or adapt to suit the expectations of others .. That would be a complete killing of one’s true self!
When asked what their thoughts are on fellow local musician’s and music educators describing Talllon’s music and style as – “if Nirvana, Thin Lizzy and Metallica were to of conceived a baby that was born with Green Day’s energy and was hiding out in the West of Ireland waiting to break out, it would be Talllon!”.
Cian says- “Jeez I dunno really, for us it is all about the music really, we just love having fun with loud guitars and big drums. We have become a good group of friends who get each other and have the same interest in music. Like, we do lock in tight and if something special is produced out of that then yeah wow! The bands named there happen to be among our biggest influences, we are all huge junkies for 90’s rock so I guess if that can resonate through our style, that they are still influencing young musicians of today’s generation, then I think that holds a great testament to what was a brilliant and iconic era of great Rock n Roll.”
2025 is looking set to be a busy year musically for Talllon, they were chosen as one of the successful applicants of the Tiny Mutiny grant awarding them funding from Tiny Mutiny 2025, Commissioned by Galway County Council Arts Office in partnership with Sparkcatchers! Supported by Galway County Council and the Arts Council. They also have performances already lined up for an opening slot at Headfest Festival in Galway, a summer slot in the Sound House Rising at the Sound House Dublin and an E.P release show – details to be confirmed.
The first performance of the upcoming E.P will be held on Saturday February 1st for the Tiny Mutiny showcase which will be held at The Mall Theatre in Tuam Co Galway.
