Speaking about the video for ‘Shy’ Marie said “it is an obvious follow on from the first released single ‘Shadow’ with a similar irreverence and boldness in its approach. It’s satirical and ironic take on the assumption of women to remain ‘nice’ at all times can impede the very sense of purpose necessary to achieve a sense of fulfilment in our endeavours.” “ It jumps straight out of the proverbial Pandora’s Box of inhibiting attitudes and celebrates owning the self” she added.
Marie Keane is a singer-songwriter with eclectic themes, from environmental protection (Marie’s a qualified environmental scientist) to Motown influenced love tunes. For 20 years she’s performed in various blues, soul and jazz ensembles. From the main stage in the Cork Jazz Festival to performing traditionally inspired tunes in the Botanical Gardens, her music crosses more than a few divides.
Her debut album ‘Russian Doll’ is a mix of folk blues and soul with subtle classical and traditional undertones. The release of Russian Doll followed on from it’s launch to a packed out Sugar Club performance of the full album in 2019. Russian Doll is available on vinyl & CD in Tower Records, selected Golden Discs stores and independent record stores in Dublin, Kildare, Athlone, Cork and Galway and record shops throughout the country, supporting Irish music.
‘Shy’ the second single from Marie’s second album ‘MNÁ’ is the power house of the whole album offering a culmination of the style and fervour of this anticipated new work from the artist. MNÁ will be released early in 2023.
