LARAbEL Unveils Debut Single: ‘Playground’ – A Song of Escapism and Resilience

‘A gifted singer and songwriter, LARAbEL is one of Ireland’s finest up and coming talents’ – Moya Brennan
‘Beautiful and vulnerable lyrics offer’s LARAbEL’s music an unyielding sense of maturity – a bright future most definitely lies ahead’ – Kate Brayden for Hot Press
In her new single, Playground, LARAbEL crafts a deeply personal and evocative song.
Here is what she has to say about the track:
“This song is about escapism and the freedom that comes with it. For me, as a child this was the outdoors. I was surrounded by growing up in such a beautiful area in Gaoth Dobhair, Donegal where it’s all a big playground. The playground in my adulthood has become a metaphor for where I go in my mind to escape reality, when there is no nature around me. It was also my best attempt at some sort of love song to the person who was there for me during a period when old trauma came back up, a reminder that I could escape and live in my own world when the outside world was too much.”
Born and raised in the remote Gaeltacht region of Gweedore, in Donegal, Ireland, LARAbEL is a singer-songwriter who, at the age of 18, moved to Dublin to pursue a music career, and has since graduated from BIMM Dublin with a Degree in Songwriting. LARAbEL began busking on Grafton Street in 2020, and has gone on to perform at Glastonbury, Electric Picnic, and the 3Olympia Theatre, as well as selling out her first headline show in Whelan’s in 2024, and headlining Moya Brennan’s own musical night, Clubeo in Leo’s Tavern. She has also supported various acts such as David Keenan, Glasshouse, and Róisín O.
This new single, Playground, taken from her debut EP Squiggle, marks an exciting new chapter in her career, and with a captivating stage presence and a rapidly growing fanbase, LARAbEL is set to take the Irish and International music scene by storm.
You can catch LARAbEL live this summer at All Together Now Festival, as well her own headline shows to be announced soon!
Beo Records are excited to present these releases, with more singles to come in the next few months, along with gigs and listening parties in the lead up to the EP release in August.
