‘Killeagh’ becomes folk-pop trio Kingfishr’s first Irish #1 Single

May 6, 2025

“This Irish trio lean into their heritage with traditional instruments and evocative, poetic songwriting. Yet their sound has a distinctly pop feel, soaring with anthemic choruses and frontman Eddie Keogh’s distinctive, barrel-chested burr.”The Independent

They’ve done it! After spending six weeks in the Top 10, Kingfishr have now risen to claim their first ever Irish #1 smash hit single with the anthemic ‘Killeagh’. Now certified 4 x Platinum, the single is the only track by an Irish artist in the current Top 10 and is also the first Irish #1 track from a domestic artist since Hozier this time last year. What’s more, ‘Killeagh’ is no one-off – it’s one of nine Kingfishr tracks currently in the Top 100.

‘Killeagh’ has become a phenomenon in recent weeks, helped by the band’s ability to inspire improvised and raucous singalongs wherever they go. They took time out from their current rapturously received sold-out debut North American tour to perform the song for masses of fans outside New York City’s famed Irish bar The Dead Rabbit. And they did likewise with a homecoming in Cork after an impromptu pub gig attracted multiple times more people than the venue could hold.

What’s more, Kingfishr have achieved this huge crossover moment simply by staying authentic to who they are. Bassist Eoin ‘Fitz’ Fitzgibbon played for the Killeagh GAA hurling club in his youth, and was asked by a current player to write an anthem in honour of the team. What was originally a local anthem is now attracting a huge global audience.

There’s much more to come from the Kingfishr lads this year. They’ll complete their current North American tour with three more sold-out shows before heading to Europe later this month. Demand for the summer shows in Ireland has been phenomenal with 30,000 tickets already sold, while all 13,000 tickets for their first Dublin 3Arena headline were snapped up in hours and that intense demand led to the confirmation of a second night at the venue.

Acclaim has been building in tandem, as they won the Music Moves Europe Award and were nominated for Irish Breakthrough Artist at the RTÉ Choice Music Prize Awards. And Kingfishr have achieved all of this without yet releasing a studio album. Stay tuned for what’s next…
