Irish Songwriter James Tebbitt reveals indie-dance Single ‘Something I Don’t Know About’

November 7, 2024

Something I Don’t Know About, released today, November 7th, is a ‘laid back but upbeat track that speaks the song of a worried mind‘. It’s a track that is very much inspired by “Can’t Do Without You” by Caribou, and the guitar production styles of Jai Paul or Glass Animals. Indie-soul or indie-dance would describe the genre of the song.

David Curley, of the Electronic Dance group The Cope, produced the track; and James Eager (The Scratch, James Vincent Mc Morrow, Sorcha Richardson) mixed it.

Yudu, the B-Side of the single, was co-written by Blood Donor. Tebbitt has been the lead guitar player for Blood Donor since 2022.

Tebbitt started playing guitar and making music at the age of 10 years old with the Alt-Pop band, ROMES, fka Nightbox. They met in school in Ireland, and moved to Toronto for over a decade 2009-2019. TEBBITT wrote and recorded 3 albums and 4 EPs there with ROMES, who toured the U.S.A., Canada, and the U.K. and supporting The Strokes, Ellie Goulding, and Death From Above 1979, among many others.

In 2019, Tebbitt left ROMES and decided to write and release his own music. In 2020 he wrote, produced and self-released his debut album “Errands”.

SIDKA and Yudu, were completed and mastered in 2022, with the intention of being released as a complementary single to Tebbitt’s debut album “Errands”.

James Tebbitt is an Irish songwriter/composer who makes indie-dance and alternative pop music. One could describe his music as a blend of Caribou and Jai Paul mixed with Glass Animals. It’s soulful, dancey and groovy.

Tebbitt started playing guitar and making music at the age of 10 years old with the Alt-Pop band, ROMES, fka Nightbox. ROMES, who met in school in Ireland, moved to Toronto for over a decade from 2009-2019, and wrote and recorded 3 albums and 4 EPs there. The Irish/Canadian band was signed to Five Seven Music and released an EP and an album, most notably produced by Grammy-nominated Tony Hoffer (Phoenix, Beck, M83, Air, The Kooks).

James co-wrote radio charting songs “Tryna Be” and “BELIEVE” ; which appeared in EA Sports Madden NFL 17 game. ROMES toured the U.S.A., Canada, and the U.K. and supported The Strokes, Ellie Goulding, and Death From Above 1979, among many others.

In 2019, Tebbitt left ROMES and decided to write and release his own music. In 2020 he wrote, produced and self-released a debut album “Errands” which was a culmination of songs and emotions around the experience of leaving the band in Toronto, and the start of a new life in his native country, Ireland.

Something I Don’t Know About and Yudu, were recorded with his good friends, formally from the band Otherkin, Dave Curley (The Cope) and Luke Reilly (Blood Donor). Dave recorded the two songs at his recording studio The Clinic, in Clontarf and Luke co-wrote the B-Side “Yudu”.

These songs were recorded at the same time as Errands and were meant to be on the album to make it a ten track LP, but because of the timing of things, it was decided that the two tracks get released as a stand alone single. Dylan Lynch (Soda Blonde, Zaska, Moon Diver) was the session drummer on both tracks on the single.

James Tebbitt now works in the film industry as a post-production sound editor/designer, and has worked on many notable films and television shows, including John Carney’s, “Flora and Son” and Neil Jordan’s “Marlowe”. So his expertise in sound production has only developed further. He also is the session guitar player in Luke Reilly’s solo project, Blood Donor. And has continued to study music composition for film with Berklee College of Music in 2023 and 2024.
