Irish musician Liadh releases ‘Illusions’ on October 18th, a dancepop track with an eerie undertone. It was written about her struggles with depression, anxiety and dissociation.

Through her lyrics, Liadh wishes to create a strong visual world, evoking her feelings of fear and detachment. She was inspired by the books ‘Piranesi’ by Susanna Clarke and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll, which deal with the nature of reality, time and perception.

Liadh says: ‘Whilst vulnerable, ‘Illusions’ is hopeful. When I was struggling with my mental health, I remained aware that my scary feelings and perceptions were but Illusions. They were not truly me. And I would find my way out of them.’

‘Illusions’ is the second release from Liadh’s debut EP of the same name, following on from synth pop bop ‘Can’t Face The Day’ which deals with themes of sobriety and mental health.

‘Illusions’ was co-written, produced and mixed by award-winning producer Lisa Murray, and mastered by Izzy McPhee @ Weird Jungle.

Liadh has a background in psychology and a fascination for the human mind and behaviour, using her music to create lyrically vulnerable work about topics such as sobriety, mental health and neurodiversity. Liadh is fluent in Irish and French and is an avid reader. She draws on her love of languages and literature in her lyrics, linking pop with other artforms. This approach informs Liadh’s trajectory as an emerging artist who isn’t afraid to push boundaries in the content and form of her music.
