Eve Clague shares new Single ‘You’d Wanna Get Over It’ from upcoming Debut Album
Eve Clague is set to release her debut album Caught in Words on 14th November 2024. This album is a deeply personal exploration of emotions, blending hurt, love, and frustration. “It’s like a criticism of myself and my emotions,” Eve says of the work, which she initially titled Caught Up in Words due to her struggles with dyslexia—a source of both frustration and growth in her life.
Following the recent single, ‘City Lights’, Eve shares new single ‘You’d Wanna Get Over It’. Eve says: “You’d Want to Get Over It is about facing your fears as you try something new. It’s also about struggling to grow up. I started a new job and found it hard to adapt. I tried to imagine myself in my mother’s shoes, how she grew up and how she threw herself into challenges with so much confidence. The chorus “You’d want to get over it someday “is a message to myself to get over these feelings of anxiety.”
ABOUT UPCOMING ALBUM ‘CAUGHT IN WORDS’
“I’m glad I settled on Caught in Words,” Eve explains, “especially when the album designer, Megan Clancy, pointed out that ‘In Words’ could also be a play on ‘Inwards.’ That’s exactly how I would describe the album—reflecting on emotions and introspection.”
The songs on Caught in Words explore themes of self-consciousness and insecurity, experiences that Eve, as someone with dyslexia, feels are common among people who have faced struggles in traditional education systems. “It could be different now,” she adds, “but this album is my way of processing those feelings.”
Over the last two years, Eve has been developing a unique sound that blends acoustic instrumentation with spacey, orchestral elements. The eight tracks on Caught in Words incorporate drones and atmospheric textures, complementing Eve’s acoustic guitar and voice. “I wanted to capture the richness of live instruments playing together,” she explains, “and it was an incredibly fun process working with guest musicians to bring each song to life.”
The album was recorded live over two days at Wavefield Studios, capturing the essence of Eve’s performances. All of the instruments were recorded with a single microphone, handcrafted by Irish company Barkley Microphones, adding a cohesive sonic signature to the album.
The musicians featured on the album include Sam Clague (Guitar, Flute, Bass Clarinet), Niall McGuinness (Double Bass), Aisling Uwrin (Harp), Justin Grounds (Violin), Lea Miklody (Cello), Anto Noonan (Percussion), and Brian Casey (Piano, Guitar).
Eve’s husky voice, paired with her distinctive acoustic guitar style, is enriched by the arrangements—creating a deeply satisfying listening experience. “These songs have been with me for a long time, and I wanted to record them so I can move forward, explore new creativity, and write new material,” Eve reflects.
Live Performances & Upcoming Gigs
Eve has been performing these songs at live gigs for some time, including sold-out shows at Levis’s, Ballydehob, and Prims Bookshop, Kinsale. Most recently, she supported Hothouse Flowers at Connolly’s of Leap. Upcoming performances include:
- The Corner House, Cork City – 16th November 2024
- Cleary’s Window Sessions, Newcastle West, Limerick – 28th November 2024
About Eve Clague
Hailing from Clonakilty, West Cork, Ireland, Eve Clague is a singer-songwriter whose music draws from the rich variety of sounds she grew up with in her home and community. Her songwriting is deeply personal and direct, influenced by folk, jazz, and the 60s era, with echoes of Joni Mitchell and Nick Cave.
Eve’s self-taught fingerpicking style blends seamlessly with her emotive vocal delivery, crafting songs that explore love, friendship, heartbreak, and mental health. Her band features seasoned musicians from Cork’s music scene, and her arrangements naturally cross genres, all centered around her acoustic guitar.
With new music scheduled for release throughout 2024, Eve is re-entering the Irish music scene after launching her single Red Skies earlier this year. Her previous releases include the single and EP Young Naive Me and Down Down Down.
“Young Naive Me is so beautifully picturesque, its authenticity can be heart-breaking and moving… As an entire package, you’ll struggle to hear a more complete piece of song-writing by an Irish artist this year.” – Remy, 2019
“The acoustic guitar, taut to the rhythm, is contrasted against the rounded bass melody. Eve’s vocals in this track are gentle but firm, wise with the strength of hindsight.” – Nialler9, 2019
