You Are is the latest track from Dublin singer-songwriter Graham O’Hara.
From the first note, this song knows what it’s about, proceeding with a sense of purpose.
A singular guitar rings out with a simple, almost childlike melody and is soon joined by the rest of the instruments that crash in with confidence and energy. By the time the vocals join, you will feel like you’re already on a journey. Spinning a tale of directionlessness and yearning, Graham recounts a time when he was “Down in the doldrums/A big bag of tears” but shifts positively to the chorus where we find him directing platitudes at the person who got him out of there. “You are/The rhythm my heart is beating/You are…”
The song features gorgeous harmonies as well as twin rock guitars reminiscent of Thin Lizzy over a Biffy Clyro groove, shifting between edgy and vulnerable with ease. We’re taken on an aural journey to close as the lead guitar plays out a solo over Graham asking us to “Sing me home”.
Featuring drummer Rob Kennedy (Gavin James, Saarloos, Isaac Butler, Dan Elliott), You Are is a thumping and melodic addition to Graham’s expanding catalogue of songs.
