Although “Revolution” is just the fifth release from the Irish four-piece ‘Circa‘, they’re already throwing listeners a curveball and challenging them with something new.

The track sees the boys moving away from their previous tracks’ vintage, desert rock vibes and tapping into the simplistic and melancholic nature of 80s post punk, with warped lead guitars, driving bass and a lot of attitude in the rhythm section. Dynamic changes between verse and chorus are paired with duel lead guitar lines weaving in and out throughout the track, providing an unsettling, hypnotic yet powerful sound, intentionally so as the track serves as a meditation on the current intense social and political climate we find ourselves in.

With this latest release, Sean and the boys choose to refrain from specifics on the lyrical front, instead approaching them with a generality and almost escapist mentality, allowing listeners to derive their own meaning from the track.

After crossing paths in 2021, Sean (vocals), Maitiu (guitar), Fionn (drums) and Sam (bass) quickly realised that they all shared a mutual love and respect for similar styles of music. Namely, 80s/90s indie-rock, soul and rnb and vintage/modern day pop. All sounds that can be heard in their music today. On top of that, they all shared a strong desire to create music like the greats that came before them. For Circa, it’s not just about creating for creation’s sake, they want to solidify themselves as another legendary Irish group on par with Thin Lizzy, The Cranberries and The Pogues to name a few. For the four boys, it was a no-brainer that they would form a band and start to create together to bring the music they’d heard in their heads for so long to life. As frontman Sean puts it:

“playing and being in music is just innate to us”.

Circa’s music is heavily pop influenced which is not something the band shies away from. Catchy hooks and confident arrangements are ever-present in their art and it’s their love for such a variety of styles that allows them to take elements from each genre and blend them together seamlessly into something new and authentic.

With five tracks under their belt, multiple headline shows (Whelan’s, Bello Bar, etc.) and another coming up in The Workman’s Club Main Room on April 17th, support slots played for other incredible Irish artists such as And He, The Fool and Saibhín, as well as showcase performances at events such as Sound in Motion (Whelan’s) and Happy Days Fest (The Grand Social), Circa are on a fast track to becoming one of the most recognisable names in the Irish music scene and with their feet pressed firmly on the gas,the sky’s the limit for these young creatives.
