Dollface is the music project of Dublin-born songwriter Aimée Rose, who has been releasing music since 2023.
After a brief hiatus from writing and performing, she’s returning to the Irish music scene with her first single release of 2025, ‘Before.’
Dollface’s music covers a range of themes, predominantly dealing with the ideas of existentialism and the sense of self.
WHO IS DOLLFACE ?
“I love that every creative person I’ve ever met has their own creative process. I’ve always considered myself a lyricist over a musician, so I have notebooks full of miscellaneous lyrics and fun words I’ve discovered. When I feel like I have something I want to say, I sit down and go through them and piece them together until I have the beginnings of a song, and go from there.”
Influenced by a range of artists across many genres such as Lucy Dacus, Stella Donnelly, Girl in Red, Phoebe Bridgers, Florist, Suki Waterhouse, Adrianne Lenker and Clairo, her music has been described as shoegaze, indie pop, and dream pop with a garage-rock edge.
“I think now more than ever, and maybe in an incredibly ironic way considering the Internet, people are craving connecting with each other more than ever. I know I’ve always written music because it brings me joy and makes me feel good, but releasing music is one of the best ways I’ve found to connect with people. When friends or strangers tell me that the lyrics I’ve written resonate with them, and that they feel the same as me, how incredible is it to know you’re always less alone in the world than you think you are?”
Dollface is due to release her new upcoming single ‘Before‘ on July 18 2025, her first release in over a year.
BEFORE
For Fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Florist, Lucy Dacus and Girl in Red.
‘Before‘ is the first release for Dollface in 2025, after a brief hiatus from writing and performing. Like most of her work, the lyrics of the song look inward to try and
understand how we cope with desire to want to be better, without fully understanding how to do that.
There’s a sense of loneliness and confusion around trying to find a sense of self and a place in the world, trying to balance wanting to fit in with wanting to not lose who you are.
The message to take away from this song is that, while it’s very easy to look at your past with rose-tinted glasses while you panic about what comes next, the reality is that you’ll most likely be fine.
That even though sometimes you feel like you don’t fit in, and you would give anything to make yourself be more like everyone else, there are other people out there who feel exactly the same way. And you’ll always have each other.
‘Before‘ was produced by Tully Gunawardhana at Porchlight Studios.
“Even though a lot of the songs that I write are sad, people often tell me that some of the lyrics are funny and I love that. I love that even though people relate to feelings of loneliness and melancholy, we can always still laugh about how sometimes, we are just a little bit dramatic. And we’ll probably be fine.”
