“Everything You Say’ is the product of me attempting to fuse folk and indie with rap. I had been listening to a lot of Zach Bryan, Gregory Alan Isakov and Bon Iver prior and thought it would be cool to match that style and aesthetic with how I like to make music. The song covers the general feeling of being in your mid twenties and feeling old, despite not being old at all. It’s a funny concept but I think a lot of young Irish people feel the same, many of us still living at home with parents – unable to find a place to live ourselves let alone afford rent or a mortgage…”
Having released a string of singles and one EP over the past few years, Irish alt RnB artist Daire Patel arrives at his debut album What Means The World To You? later this year. Influenced by Mac Miller and Frank Ocean, Patel’s early days saw him combine a hip-hop feel with a lo-fi bedroom pop sound. He made an immediate impact with his early tracks – including sleeper hit ‘Hold Me Down’ and the exquisite ‘Sirens’, which appeared on a selection of influential playlists and enjoyed radio play on RTE and BBC, as well as being placed on the acclaimed Irish drama shows ‘Kin’ and ‘Smother’. Having collaborated with producers such as Posner and OLIVE HATAKE on more dance influenced tracks, ‘Everything You Say’ sees him return to his musical roots – albeit with new elements added to the sound and a fresh lyrical insight.
I had a dream I was free And that means the world to me Woke up, stuck in the same place Woke up and I’m not the same age
“I think these lyrics really capture the mindset of someone being in your twenties and feeling like your life is just passing you by….” (Daire Patel, 2024)
