Cronin release reflective new single “Good Days Ahead (But Some Sad Days Too)”. The title comes from a saying their Grandmother used to say to them as children.
A reflective song on ageing, relationships, mortality, crows feet and loss, walking back to the streets that you lived and finding euphoria to carry on living in them. Lyrically with a cast of Samual Beckett, Gram parson and Emmylou Harris.
Musically, the track blends 80s Cure-inspired synths and Joy Division basslines with a widescreen Springsteen-esque chorus — the latter recorded just two days after frontman Johnny Cronin met the Boss backstage in Cork during his 2024 Irish date.
Produced by Cronin and recorded at Transmission Rooms Studio in Drumlish, Co Longford, the song features longtime collaborator Karl Odlum (The Frames, Lisa O Neill) and was mixed by Ger McDonnell (Jarvis Cocker, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers), with mastering by Richard Dowling at WAV Mastering, Limerick.
“Good days Ahead (But Some Sad Days Too)” is the second track of an upcoming EP dropping in May, with tour dates to follow.
The single’s artwork — a portrait of brothers Johnny and Mick Cronin by longtime friend Duncan Patterson (Anathema, Antimatter Ion) — was originally taken in 2015 in Hyde Park, Leeds, near where their family lived during the Irish migration boom of the 60s. The area, once a hub of Irish diaspora life, also featured on the cover of The Verve’s This Is Music.
