Following a sold-out inaugural festival in 2023, the Seán Corcoran Series returns to the heart of Drogheda’s historic walled town from 6th – 8th September with a vibrant programme of the finest in traditional and multi-disciplinary arts, including what promises to be an astonishing gala concert evening Croí na Féile – ‘You’re Welcome Here Kind Stranger’.
On the evening of Saturday 7th September in Drogheda’s Augustinian Church Croí na Féile – ‘You’re Welcome Here Kind Stranger’” will be a celebration of the true spirit of hospitality for all, featuring performances by Palestinian cellist Naseem Alatrash (an Irish debut), fiddle player Doireann Ní Ghlacáin, singers Len Graham and Niamh Bury, The Sunday’s Gate Quartet, bouzouki player Libby McCrohan, violinist, composer, singer and actress Cora Venus Lunny, poet Theo Dorgan, writer Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde, composer Michael Holohan, and more.
Placing traditional music and song alongside Arabic cello music, zine making, recitals, mumming, community history, bell ringing, poetry, documentary film, food, folklore, community gatherings and a new Arts and Heritage Day – The Seán Corcoran Series is not to be missed.
The Festival’s Artistic Director Rósa Corcoran says: “Our production crew have been prepping the churches we’re using as venues for the festival and it’s hard not to be struck by the architectural beauty of many of these buildings in Drogheda. Our gala concert Croí na Féile will be a very special event in St Augustine’s Church with its gorgeous Harry Clarke stained glass window and huge altar. It really brings the drama!
It’s in a very old part of the town and you can really feel that when you walk the medieval lanes and streets to get to it. The musicians themselves are excited to perform here and you can’t ask for better than that when you’re bringing artists of this calibre to your hometown.”
