Cormac Russell releases Shakespearean single and announces sixth album

February 17, 2023

Canadian born but raised in Ireland, Cormac Russell has taken his music across the globe, including tours in England and China. He released his acclaimed fourth album titled ‘The Year I Broke The Stars’ last year, which won some very favourable reviews, as well as airplay on national and international radio. He will be releasing his sixth LP titled ‘Prisoners’ this April.

Playing all the instruments himself, Cormac draws from a wide range of influences; from indie contemporaries like Kurt Vile and Bill Callahan to literary giants like Whitman and Rimbaud.

Latest single Like Juliet was released last week.  Speaking of the song Russell says: “This was a little miracle of a song, as the music and words fell out of my mouth in their entirety in one go (without having to pick up a pen), and I was lucky enough to have already hit the record button. I’d like to think that it is a little cinematic. Certainly the words might have been influenced by film adaptations of Romeo and Juliet, but more likely it sprang from my readings of the play. I’m rather obsessed with this particular work by the Bard, and have taught the play in schools as well as seeing it at the Globe”.

Cormac Russell releases his new album ‘Prisoners’ on the 7th April.  New single ‘Like Juliet’ is available to stream below:
