It is 1993, and you are rather ‘unpopular’ in the household. After a fun night of watching The X-Files, you go boot up the shared 1mb Macintosh Plus (pictured below), to browse the newfound wonder that is the world wide web.
When you return you discover that THERE IS A MERMAID USING THE COMPUTER.
Not one single person in the bloody house believes you; and your step-brother Micháel is furious that the computer keeps getting drenched, and thinks you are simply looking for attention. “It was 1993 / So nobody believed me / They thought that I was telling lies you see / Simply looking for attention / By claiming/ That I could ‘suddenly’ communicate with marine life, (your step-brother Micháel is very upset)”
‘There is a Mermaid Using the Computer‘ is the second collaboration between Blakkheart and Aran Sheehy following their 2022 single ‘Dreamscape from the 2000’s,’ which was featured in Hot Press, on national radio, and in many Spotify playlists. Both Blakkheart and Aran are multi-instrumentalists, producers and synth lovers, and in this upcoming single they combine their vast musical repertoire to create an anachronistic ode the dreamy colourful haze of 90’s pop culture, which has been a key influence in both artists careers to date. Blakkheart made a Windows 95 style music visualizer from scratch, with aquatic, oceanic visuals to fully immerse you in the world of the song. 🐟

Blakkheart is a music producer, vocalist and visual artist. She is an award winning composer, and was featured in Sound On Sound for winning the FMC award for a score she did for a retro science fiction short film. She has opened for CMAT and Gemma Dunleavy, and was previously one of the headlining artists at It Takes A Village. She makes everything on a Roland Juno DI synthesizer she bought on Done Deal.
