Belfast’s Kiing Sequence launches new ‘Melodies On Drill’ mixtape
“I made this EP almost four years ago. It wasn’t even meant to drop but the music always felt bigger than me. It’s drill but it’s not what you’re used to. It’s layered. Melodic. Real. Every track says something. Welcome to Melodies On Drill……” (Kiing Sequence)
Belfast based Afro-fusion artist and trailblazer Kiing Sequence announces the release of his highly anticipated project, MOD (Melodies On Drill). This new body of work sees the genre-defying musician pushing boundaries once again, blending the raw energy of drill with his signature melodic and Afro-inspired sound. The mixtape is a testament to Kiing Sequence’s fearless approach to music-making – fusing haunting drill rhythms and hard-hitting 808s with lush melodies and Afro-fusion textures. The result is a collection of tracks that are as emotionally resonant as they are rhythmically infectious, offering listeners a fresh perspective on what drill can be.
The project has been ongoing for some years, starting with ‘Free’, his collaboration with Galway producer LukeFly in 2020. Since then he has moved between genres, always with the sense that there was unfinished business. MOD closes the circle, reimagining the aggressive beats and stark lyricism with Caribbean, dancehall and Afrobeat influences – layering in introspective lyrics that explore themes of identity, perseverance, and the realities of modern life. An acclaimed video director, the release comes complete with a stunning trailer shot in his hometown.
More than just a producer of infectious beats, Kiing Sequence is known for his thought-provoking lyrics, often addressing topics such as mental health, masculinity, and cultural identity. His work has resonated widely, earning placements on major streaming playlists (including ACS, Fresh Finds, Just Dropped, and New Music Friday), and his Afropop anthem ‘Shine’ was featured on the soundtrack for the acclaimed series Atlanta (Season 3).
His collaborative spirit has seen him work with leading names across the Irish and UK music scenes, including LukeFly, Sello, Headie One, and Jordan Adetunji. His recent single “STAY RIGHT?”—which blends techno and club influences with his Afro-fusion roots—has already made waves on TikTok, amassing tens of thousands of video views prior to its official release. With Melodies On Drill, Kiing Sequence continues to redefine genre boundaries, offering a bold vision for the future of drill and Afro-fusion. The project is set to captivate both longtime fans and new listeners, establishing Kiing Sequence as a global innovator in contemporary music.
MOD (Melodies On Drill) is available on all major streaming platforms from today.
