The alternative pop visionary released her highly anticipated sophomore EP, ‘Popular Loner 2‘, earlier this month. A five-track release that cements her evolution, the project refines her signature blend of hyperpop electricity and confessional lyricism into something sharper, heavier, and impossible to ignore.
McNeice has never been interested in playing it safe, and ‘Popular Loner 2‘ is her most audacious move yet. Following the cult success of “All My Love“—which snagged a Northern Ireland Music Prize nomination for Single of the Year—she’s doubled down on the “popular loner” mythology that first put her on the map. “This EP is about reclaiming solitude as power,” says McNeice. “Where the first chapter explored isolation, Popular Loner 2 is about finding confidence in that space—turning the bedroom pop ethos into something you can scream live. Working with Still Searching and F3miii pushed me to explore heavier sonic territories while keeping that diary-entry honesty intact. It’s hyperpop when it wants to be, indie rock when it needs to be, and unapologetically me throughout.”
With Popular Loner 2, McNeice leans further into contrast: chaos and softness, vulnerability and defiance, Intimacy cranked to full volume and sometimes all within the same breath. Rooted in nostalgic early-2000s indie-pop and filtered through a modern hyperpop lens, the EP plays like a sonic diary—charting the emotional highs and lows of self-discovery, independence, and identity.
