Badhands Shares New Single ‘When I Think About You’

March 8, 2022

Ahead of the release of his second album ‘Far Away’, Badhands has shared his new single ‘When I Think About You’ (released Friday 4th March).

A hazy, 60s-inspired ballad steeped in nostalgia, with Daniel Fitzpatrick’s distinctive gravelly vocal taking centre-stage, ‘When I Think About You’ is a timeless composition that harks back to the likes of Scott Walker, the Shangri-Las or Gene Pitney.

Badhands says: “When I was writing this song I felt like it was the closest thing to a power ballad that I would ever write, and I decided to really lean into the melodrama with both the lyrics and the arrangement. Musically, I was very influenced by artists like the Shangri-Las and songs such as ‘Remember, Walking In the Sand’ with their mini-epic stories of tragic romance. Their music was always poppy but had a real edge to it, which is what I was looking for with this tune.”

The single is the follow-up to ‘The Wait’ and ‘Wasted’, both of which attracted the attention of Irish media like Hot Press, Nialler9 and Entertainment.ie, and radio, with plays on stations such as RTÉ Radio 1, Radio Nova, Ocean FM and KCLR.

Badhands is the musical project of Daniel Fitzpatrick, a composer, singer and songwriter whose debut album Predictable Boy was compared to “a Lee Hazelwood epic” by journalist, playwright and former Horslips drummer Eamon Carr when it was released in 2018. His EP Oceans followed in 2020, a project which was inspired by the unique nature of each of the world’s five oceans.

Since then, Daniel has spent the past couple of years composing scores for wildlife documentaries in collaboration with some of the world’s largest TV organisations, including the BBC, PBS and RTÉ. In 2019, his score for the Wild Cuba documentary won an award at the prestigious Jackson Wild Film Festival in the U.S. in 2019, as well as winning Best Score at the 2021 Green Screen Wildlife Festival in Germany. Badhands also collaborates with artists in theatre performances, working with Maud Lee and Zoe Ni Riordan on some of their acclaimed theatre productions, such as their 2018 show Recovery which enjoyed a sold out run at Dublin’s Project Arts Centre. He is also a member of fellow Irish musician Paddy Hanna’s band.

Badhands’ new album Far Away is out on Friday 1st April 2022.

Badhands plays a full band show in Whelans main room on Saturday, 9th April 2022. Support from Anderson.
