Acclaimed Irish artist Aoife Wolf makes a mesmerising return with her eagerly awaited new single, ‘Bristle of Delusion’.

Emerging from a period of intense creativity and reflection, the Co. Offaly native—now based in Dublin—delivers a sorcerous five-minute masterclass that defies easy categorisation. ‘Bristle of Delusion’ shimmers with Wolf’s signature spectral vocals and haunting, minimalistic instrumentation, casting a slow-burning spell that lingers long after the final note fades.

The single is a collective feat, recorded by Julie McLarnon at the world-class Northern Irish analogue recording studio, Analogue Catalogue, mixed by Callum Browne and Ian MacFarlane, and mastered by Caskré, aka Jamie Hyland. It features musical contributions from Browne, Alannagh Thornburg, Kait Cullen-Verhauz, and fellow fast-rising Irish artist Elaine Malone.

Fresh off performances in Berlin, supporting My Bloody Valentine’s Deb Googe, and a standout show at Inishbofin Arts Festival, Wolf’s star continues to soar, following singles including last year’s critically praised ‘A Ringing in the Ear.’ With upcoming performances in London, Dublin, and Cork, she is poised for another enthralling chapter.

‘Bristle of Delusion’ is a cloistered exploration of vulnerability and personal truth. It weaves through dreamlike transitions—both in narrative and sound—reflecting an internal monologue that could be pulled from an unpublished Virginia Woolf work. Across five minutes, Wolf keeps the song’s meaning deftly out of reach, a deliberate choice that invites listeners to sit with the discomfort. Speaking about the song, Wolf shares, “Bristle is the first single from my latest project, which was born out of a state of anger and frustration amidst the strange and bewildering experience of inhabiting a woman’s body.” “To live within a rich and complex inner world, but being coveted simply on the allure of the female anatomy that is so powerful as to drive many to deceit or violence. I wanted to juxtapose the vulnerability in my vocals with the heavy guitar tone to express the confusion of feeling at once both defiant and disarmed.”

Accompanied by searing strings and some of her most exquisite harmonies to date, Wolf’s latest creation pulls from a well of deeply personal yet universal emotions. As one listen confirms, ‘Bristle of Delusion’ reaffirms her place as one of Ireland’s most compelling artists, once more mining the depths of the human experience to summon something equally beatific and raw.
