Following the success of her dark and brooding single Burn(RTÉ Radio 1, Joe.ie, Hot Press), Irish-Japanese singer-songwriter Amano steps into the light with The Birthing House, a spellbinding fusion of folk, classical, and traditional influences, released on March 19th.
Written during a writing retreat and Gaeltacht immersion on Ireland’s Atlantic Coastline, the song explores an artist’s reconnection with their vocation—journeying through darkness and revelation to find peace in their true calling. Featuring whistling motifs, intricate acoustic guitar, grand piano, cello, fiddle, and monochord, the track’s ethereal soundscape is punctuated by a dramatic time signature shift and a raw, almost metal-infused breakdown.
Amano’s evocative lyricism conjures sparrows, black sheep, and a dying fox, weaving a narrative of artistic rebirth and cosmic belonging. Produced by Elise Mollé and recorded at The Meadow Studio, Co. Wicklow, The Birthing House channels the cinematic intimacy of Lisa Hannigan, Agnes Obel, and Villagers, while embracing Amano’s distinct poetic voice.
The two singles are thematically intertwined through the stunning hand drawn ink animations and cover art of Lisbon based Irish artist Oreganillo/ Aodh Ó Riagáin.
This release follows Amano’s 2024 Irish-language EP THREAD, a critically acclaimed collaboration with Kalabanx and marks a continued evolution in her work.
The Birthing House is available on all major streaming platforms.
