Killarney singer-songwriter Amano marks her return to the music scene with Burn, her first solo release in over a decade.
Set for release on February 19th, the indie-folk coming of age anthem conjures up a yearning for self-liberation from the suffocating confines of a small town.
With Burn, Amano delivers soaring, selkie-like vocals enveloped in a velvety soundscape driven by Brian Leach’s shimmering hammered dulcimer, Amano’s own guitar work, lush strings from Paul MacDarby and Clare Grogan, uilleann pipe swells from Darragh Ó Héiligh, and a heartbeat-like percussion section courtesy of Daniel Murphy.
The single will be available on Bandcamp and all major streaming platforms, heralding the next chapter in Amano’s musical journey. After a decade-long hiatus, the release follows her return to the airwaves in 2024 with THREAD, a critically acclaimed Irish-language EP blending electronic beats with the raw beauty of sean-nós vocals, co-created with producer Kalabanx.
Burn sees Amano reconnecting with her alt-folk roots, drawing influences from Irish indie-champions like Villagers and The Frames, while also channelling the emotive stylings of artists like Lianne La Havas and Laura Marling.
Recorded at The Meadow Studio in County Wicklow by producer/engineer Elise Mollé and mastered by Jamie Hyland, Burn is both a deeply personal reclamation of the artist’s younger voice and a head-first dive into new beginnings. The accompanying artwork and lyric video, a haunting illustration by Oreganillo (Aodh Ó Riagáin), bring the song’s energy of transmutation to life.
Fans can look forward to a second single, The Birthing House, set for release on March 19th.
Beyond music, Amano is a multidisciplinary artist whose recent projects have spanned street theatre, film, and literary journals, as well as collaborations with renowned Irish musicians such as Liam Ó Maolaí, Rónán Ó Snodaigh, and Blue Niall.
