Aislinn Logan releases new shimmer pop single ‘Magic in Her Head’

November 1, 2024

Magic in Her Head’ is shimmer pop you could simultaneously dance and cry to. The song narrates a tragedy unfolding that you’re desperate to stop but can’t admit that you’re helpless to.

Sonically, it nods to 80s-era George Michael and features a hopeful but frustrated refrain “Come on and try for me / Don’t just say goodbye to me”. Strings, rhythmic bass groove, and syncopated synth lift the vocal, but the metronomic beat cuts a sharp contrast against the unfurling story of Belfast suburbia gone wrong.

The second song of Logan’s soon to be announced album, ‘Magic in Her Head’, is a cornerstone of the record and “sets the scene of the chapter of life it’s talking to”. Bright and hopeful, the track also portrays the agony of loving someone who’s destroying themselves, and the defiance of trying to make them see how wonderful they actually are.

Along with several others on the album, Magic in Her Head was produced by Logan herself. “Although the song is about an unfurling inevitability, the song’s palette ended up putting across the strength of love we can have – even when it’s dejected blow after blow”, Logan says. Inspired by Talking Heads, Cocteau Twins, and Dynasty.
