A Band Called Paul Collaborates with Joel I.D. on New Single ‘Alive’

At a time of global uncertainty, economic crisis and high-profile acts of violence, Irish indie rock artist A Band Called Paul and American rapper Joel I.D. join voices across the Atlantic once again to create “ALIVE” … an anthem for those who find themselves needing support on their journey back to mental health.
Written and recorded at a distance of 5,000 miles apart, “ALIVE” is a remarkable and unique progression from the pair’s hugely successful previous collaborations “Breaking Through” and “I Believe”, both released in 2021 after the artists connected on Twitter to pursue their creative relationship.
Building in distinct phases, “ALIVE” evolves from a starting point resembling chamber music through a somewhat reflective harmonised vocal swing-jazz development into an exhilarating combination of indie rock, rap and modern dance.
Based in Dublin, Ireland, A Band Called Paul is the creative outlet of former orchestral percussionist, soundtrack composer and session musician Paul McDonnell. The band’s music reflects the variety and depth of Paul’s musical career transitioning seamlessly between hard rock, Latin jazz, indie rock, electronica and world music.
A Band Called Paul released its debut album, “Primero”, in February 2019. He has released six solo singles to date:
the back-to-our-roots indie rock “Inside Out”,selected by Tom Robinson for the BBC Introducing Mixtape on BBC6
“Breaking Through”, released in March 2021, was the first time A Band Called Paul has collaborated with another artist, Joel I.D., on a release. “I Believe”, released in August 2021, was their second full collaboration.
Sandwiched between the two collaborations, A Band Called Paul remixed a track by Irish singer-songwriter Rhesus Freak. “Cabin in the Woods” was Paul’s first venture into producing a track for another artist and was released in June 2021.
A Band Called Paul is currently working on tracks for its second album, provisionally entitled “Segundo”, due for release in 2023.
