Fresh off his sold out show at McLoones Bar, O’hEaráin treats us to another page of his carefully crafted songbook with his latest release, ‘Lucky One‘.
O’hEaráin invites us in for a proverbial heart-to-heart by the fireside, to muse about the “what if?” A bittersweet memoir of what could have been.
Through the sublime combination of the complex and the simple, O’hEaráin presents us with a sumptuous blend of numerous influences including Irish folk, trad, American country and bluegrass. The song marries the beautiful and the brutal, the fairytale and the harsh reality. A reminiscent story of summer love that didn’t last forever.
“Lucky One came to life at 2am, after arriving home from a gig. By 3am, an idea on the guitar became a fully formed song. Thankfully, it is only semi autobiographical, as I’m now happily married to my summer romance, but it does explore the scary question, what if?” – O’hEaráin
The track is accompanied by the enchanting backing vocals of Chanele McGuinness, and a haunting string line bowed by cellist Laura McFadden. With these ornaments, placed upon a well balanced trademark finger style, it is a sound that can only be described as vintage O’hEaráin. This songwriter takes another forward step while staying true to his unique style.
With breaking news of O’hEaráin supporting and accompanying Tanya McCole in the Balor Arts Center in Ballybofey on 25th July, another one of Donegal’s shining lights, along with some big plans for a headline gig over the summer, it would be reminisce not to say: Miss these at your peril. There is something very special happening here.
