Lawson & The Racket, are a five-piece alternative roots band from Kilkenny, have announced the release of their debut EP, ‘Squealing Pigs’, arriving on 14 September 2026 across all major streaming platforms.
Formed after songwriter David Lawson Froggatt was encouraged to return to writing and performing by longtime friend and bassist Liam Hennessy, Lawson & The Racket have steadily built a reputation on the local live music scene.
Alongside brothers Karol Ryan (guitar) and John Ryan (drums), and Alan Gannon (rhythm guitar), the band spent the past 18 months honing their sound through performances in Cleere’s Bar, Kilkenny, before making their official live debut to a packed, sold-out audience at Kilkenny Roots 2026.
Recorded over two sessions at Ragged Sound Studio, Co. Carlow, ‘Squealing Pigs’ captures the band’s blend of alternative roots, folk, indie and Americana influences.
Recorded largely live in the studio, the four-track collection emphasises authentic performances, dynamic interplay and honest songwriting, offering listeners a first glimpse of a full-length album currently in production.

The EP combines acoustic and electric guitars, double bass, drums, brass and keys, creating a rich yet uncluttered sound that allows the songs to take centre stage.
The result is a record that feels organic and immediate that is reflecting the chemistry of the band playing altogether. The four piece track collection showcases the band’s alt-roots and their approach to writing and making music. Their debut EP ‘Squealing Pigs’ serves as a teaser for what Lawson & The Racket have to bring for their full length album. This track shows a band that is confident in their sound and captures what they are truly all about.

Speaking about the recording process, guitarist and songwriter Karol Ryan said:
“Recording at Ragged Sound allowed us to keep the songs honest and the energy authentic. It’s a true reflection of where we are right now and a preview of the broader record to come.”
On the band’s collaborative approach to songwriting, Ryan added:
“Some songs David brings to the band are fully formed; others we’ll work on together. At times, I’ll bring the bones of a song and Dave will find the words. Whatever works, works.”
The songs are honest and uncomplicated, and reflect a band that knows that life itself throws up enough already without having to worry too much about string quartets. The record uses an uncluttered palette of acoustic and electric guitars, double bass, drums and accents of brass and keys to support the song-writing.
‘Squealing Pigs’ will be available on all major streaming platforms from 14 September 2026. The track is available to pre-save now on Spotify and Bandcamp.
