“Meticulously executed soul/jazz… From soulful summer heat (Somewhere) and Steely Dan-style silkiness (Work Out) to piano ballads (Never Going Home) and positive vibes (Chip In), Burning Rome sizzles from start to end”. – Tony Clayton-Lea – The Irish Times
“In an age when people are discouraged from fighting for freedom, humanity and a better world – it’s heartening to witness an artist put his activist spirit front and centre of his musical identity.” – Dean van Nguyen – The Dublin Inquirer
The Story of the Song
‘i go through something too‘ is a song about empathy and the ripple effects of how we treat each other. Verse 1 is about our personal relationships at home, while verse 2 talks about the connections we have as humans worldwide. Our ability to understand and experience the suffering of oppressed people wherever they are in the world is what makes us human.
Musically it’s a midtempo soul tune, with horns, trademark vocal harmonies and a jazzy trumpet break.
Note to DJs: There’s an abrupt acapella stop at the end of the song since it runs straight into the next track on the album.
