Niamh will be releasing her second single this Wednesday, 8th of July ‘Tar Aníos’ ahead of her album coming out this August A Stretch of Light.

The song was inspired by a starry evening spent in Rathangan, Co. Kildare and the story of the battle for the town in 1798. ‘Tar Aníos’ translates to ‘come down’. The track captures a live studio take by Niamh recorded in the Dublin mountains Hellfire Studio on their grand piano.

Niamh says how she:

“Set out to write a song as Gaeilge as an entry to the Pan Celtic National Songwriting Contest & this song fell out of me all at once, feeling fully formed and sure in a rare way. I’ve spoken & sung in Irish since I was small but writing this felt like a homecoming”

Niamh has announced the release of her self-produced debut album A Stretch of Light with a string of shows across Dublin, Tipperary, Tullamore, Sligo, Mullingar and more to be announced. The lead single ‘Mornings Past’ received airplay on BBC Introducing, Radio Nova and KCLR FM as well as an invitation for a live radio performance of the song with Charlie McGettigan

Charlie McGettigan said about ‘Mornings Past’:

“What a great song! Love the chord sequences and the sentiment”

A Stretch of Light is set to release the 21st of August and Niamh will be celebrating with a launch show in The Cobblestone, joined by a full band on the 22nd of August.
