Other Voices Dingle announce first Church Headliners and IMRO Other Room Acts
Other Voices are thrilled to return to West Kerry from November 29th to December 1st. This is the 23rd iteration of the magical three-day festival of music, song and story. Today’s announcement reveals our first wave of amazing acts to perform on the hallowed stage of St James’ Church.
The ethereal LAURA MARLING will dazzle us with her one-of-a-kind vocals, delivering fresh tracks from her new album Patterns in Repeat (out October 25). The English artist wrote, recorded, and produced the project in her London home studio after the birth of her daughter in 2023. OV are honoured to host Marling in Dingle this year.
Following the recent release of their second album Midas, UK rockers WUNDERHORSE will make their Dingle debut at St James’ Church. The four-piece grunge act have come a long way since forming in 2020, evolving to a quartet after frontman Jacob Slater originally started the project solo. 2022’s first record Cub cemented their hype status.
The international names may be impressive, but Ireland’s musical mná are a force to be reckoned with. Up first, folk powerhouse LISA O’NEILL.
Following 2019’s EP The Wren and performance in Patrick Kavanagh’s The Great Hunger at The Abbey Theatre, the Cavan native unveiled her incredible fifth album All Of This Is Chance on Rough Trade in February 2023 to rave reviews. O’Neill’s anticipated, intimate set in St James’ Church will surely be one for the Dingle history books.
MORGANA made a name for herself as one half of Derry/Belfast duo Saint Sister, but she’s currently embracing the solo spotlight with an epic live set of ‘pop music you can cry to’. Having performed at Other Voices: Home at the Guinness Storehouse in November 2023, we’re ready for Morgan McIntyre to get the Church audience dancing. Check out Morgana’s video for I’ll Cry When I’m Dead featuring actor and comedian Ardal O’Hanlon.
And last but not least – RACHAEL LAVELLE, an Other Voices favourite, is finally playing St James’ Church for the first time – and we couldn’t be happier.
The Dublin-born singer and composer captivates crowds with her magnetic voice and uncanny observations on existence. Merging classical and contemporary influences, the talent unveiled her debut album Big Dreams in September 2023 and swiftly earned a Choice Music Prize nomination. Lavelle’s swirling, angelic vocals are sure to connect with the coveted soundscapes within St James’ Church.
The IMRO Other Room is an incredibly special stand of Other Voices Dingle, inviting artists blazing a trail on Irish soil to perform live and online. The only other livestreamed sets aside from St James’ Church, this year will emphasise some of our favourite ‘next big thing’ acts from 2024: Shiv, Curtisy and Ellie O’Neill.
Irish-Zimbabwean singer-songwriter SHIV will drop her long-awaited debut album the defiance of a sadgirl on October 17th (tomorrow!), having teased the release with a Kojaque collaboration ‘Cherry Pie’ – produced by Soft Boy Records’ GAPTOOF. Shiv’s genre-blending soundscapes are immersive, rich in soul and full of hooks.
CURTISY is no stranger to Dingle, having performed on the Music Trail back in 2023. The distinctive Tallaght rapper released his debut album, What Was the Question, back in early May. He’s collaborated with Rory Sweeney, Ahmed, With Love and even Kojaque on a remix – who he cites as a key inspiration.
Last but certainly not least is Meath musician ELLIE O’NEILL. The Ratoath songwriter is hard at work on a body of songs for her first full-length album, but she frequently explores vulnerable subject matter with a maturity and tenderness well beyond her years. The IMRO Other Room will mark O’Neill’s first time on the Dingle stage; it’s guaranteed to be enchanting.
“Other Voices are thrilled to announce another beautiful array of artists gracing our stages in December,” the festival’s founder, Philip King, says of this year’s upcoming edition.
“We are thrilled to be once more opening the door of The Church Of St James and to have the privilege of inviting some of ireland’s and the world’s greatest artists to raise their voices to sing in this wonderful room For the 23rd year Dingle will come alive as we tumble from November into December. In the IMRO Other Room we will celebrate what’s about to happen, and across The Trail, the emotional soundtrack of Ireland right now will be celebrated in all its diversity.
“It is a delight to have these exceptional artists come West along the Road to beautiful Dingle to sing their songs and in a profound way give us a sense of what it feels like to be living in Ireland right now. I can’t wait.”
Before we head down to Dingle, we’re so excited to be making our return to The Liberties for our very special fifth edition of Other Voices: Home, live and online on Weds 13 November from the Guinness Storehouse. We’ll be celebrating the wealth of talent this island has to offer with an incredible line-up of homegrown talent – The Mary Wallopers, Tolü Makay, Just Mustard, SOAK, Niamh Regan, and Pádraic Keane. A limited number of free tickets drop at 12pm on Tues 29 Oct via guinness-storehouse.com.
And across the water, we’re back in West Wales from 31 Oct – 2nd Nov for Other Voices: Cardigan. With over 90 live performances on the Music Trail, stimulating discussions at Clebran and Charlotte Day Wilson, Nadine Shah, Fionn Regan, Bill Ryder-Jones, Fabiana Palladino, Victor Ray, Georgia Ruth and Melys lighting up St Mary’s Church, it’s sure to be a weekend to remember.
