December 9, 2013

New Music Dublin 2014New Music Dublin is back with a new artistic director, new ensembles and performers and new music, showcasing the work of major international and Irish figures over four days in March 2014.

NMD is a partnership initiative of The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon, The National Concert Hall, RTÉ Orchestras and the Contemporary Music Centre. The second Festival will take place in the NCH on March 6 – 9 2014.

This year’s festival will be curated by Irish composer and founder of Crash Ensemble, Donnacha Dennehy, and will include performances of music by composers rarely heard in Ireland including Georg Friedrich Haas, Hans Abrahamsen, Claude Vivier and Harrison Birtwistle.

Other highlights include Icebreaker performing an evening set built around the music of Kraftwerk, an electro-acoustic performance of Stockhausen’s Oktophonie (with an 8-channel set-up), Gyorgy Ligeti’s masterly Chamber Concerto (in one of Crash Ensemble’s concerts), alongside music by Gerald Barry, Michael Gordon, Philip Glass and Osvaldo Golijov. Jenny Walshe will give one of her wonderful solo performances of her own work, and Therese Fahy will take us on a tour of new Irish music for the piano.

NMD will also have a schedule of workshops, masterclasses and other events which are due to be announced in the coming weeks.
