The 12th Fastnet Maritime and Folk Festival in Ballydehob drew its biggest crowds yet, thanks to a mix of sunshine, strong performances, and a vibrant community atmosphere.
One of the highlights of the weekend was the Songwriting Competition, sponsored by IMRO.
Visitors came from across Ireland and further afield, including England, Germany, Australia, and the USA, reflecting the festival’s growing international appeal. The camper van area reached full capacity, and the village buzzed with music throughout the weekend.
Festival headliner Damien Barber drew a full house at Levis Corner House Bar, delivering a powerful set of Australian folk songs that connected with both long-time fans and new listeners. Meanwhile, the rich tradition of Irish music was front and centre, with outstanding performances from Matt Cranitch and Jackie Daly, playing in the distinctive Sliabh Luachra style.
The festival’s welcoming spirit was felt in the informal singarounds and trad sessions that popped up in pubs and venues around the village. These included a standout appearance by Chris Wilson of The Wilson Family, whose recent collaboration with Sting added a touch of international prestige to the weekend.
Festival organiser Dick Miles and local musicians played a key role throughout the event, keeping the sessions flowing and the spirit of the festival alive. With a laid-back pace and strong community support, the festival continues to offer something special for both musicians and audiences.
