The IMRO Radio Award nominated series ‘An Seisiún’ is back with new episodes on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. This innovative music programme puts three musicians into a recording studio, they are given a theme and tasked with writing and recording three new songs in Irish over a twelve-hour period. An Seisiún follows the musicians throughout the session, and gives listeners a glimpse into the creative process, and the collaborative energy that results in three brand new pieces of music.
Acclaimed music producer Karl Odlum works with the musicians to help them record their creations. Artists from different musical backgrounds are deliberately grouped together, a mix which helps to create something new and special in the studio. Cian Mac Cárthaigh and Lisa McGeough present and produce An Seisiún and Fearghal Saxe is the sound engineer. An Seisiún is based on the Sesiwn UNNOS series on BBC Radio Cymru and is funded through the BAI Sound & Vision scheme.
Production of An Seisiún series 2 began in February 2020 but the recording was put on hold due to the COVID pandemic, recording of the series resumed in 2022.
An Seisiún celebrates the wonderful musicians who took part and allowed us into their creative space throughout the series.
