Ed Condon: Warner Chappell Music Publishing

Ed grew up in County Waterford before moving to Dublin to study at UCD.  After moving to the UK to complete a Masters, he worked in book publishing for several years before finally matching his passion for music with his career and getting into the music business.

Ed is currently Director, Legal & Business Affairs for Warner Chappell Music Publishing.  Based in London, Ed’s main focus is signing composers and songwriters to Warner Chappell.  He also advises on most other aspects of the day to day running of a music publishing business from sync licensing to complex catalogue deals, copyright infringement claims to contract disputes, digital music licensing to issues relating to UGC online platforms.  He regularly works with Warner Chappell’s international network of affiliates and sub-publishers.

Ed sits on various external committees and advisory groups including PRS for Music’s Commercial Advisory Group (CAG) and MCPS’s Legal Issues and Anti-Piracy Group.  The purpose of the CAG is to review licence proposals with the aim of achieving the best possible terms and outcome for the membership as a whole.

Ed has significant collecting society experience.  Prior to working at Warner Chappell, Ed spent six years in the legal team at PRS for Music.  Whilst there, Ed was the main legal advisor to the digital music licensing team and has a deep understanding of multi-territory digital music licensing with the major global music streaming services.  He also advised on major broadcaster blanket licences for the biggest UK national and satellite broadcasters.  Ed regularly advised PRS on issues relating to licensing schemes, membership, international issues, distribution committee matters and contentious matters including references made to the UK’s Copyright Tribunal.

Ed has a strong understanding of the music business and of the close and vital relationship between writers and composers, publishers and societies.
